Update: Wake Surfing and the Removal of Tubing Zone Map

In 2021, our organization published a 'Suggested Wake Surfing & Tubing Zone' map recommending that these activities occur at least 300' distance from shore and in at least 20' of depth in an effort to protect the shoreline and shallows. At the time, little information was available to the three towns and the community regarding the energy of the waves produced while wake surfing, or of the energy of the propeller downwash from the boats that generate them. The recent Terra Vigilis reports (see below) have made this information available to all.

As previously stated, we endorse the scientific findings of Terra Vigilis, but leave it to the towns to decide how to balance recreational interests and ecological concerns. We have therefore withdrawn the map and its suggestions.

We will post a new map reflecting the town's guidance when it becomes available. In addition, please note that we continue to be concerned about protecting the shallow brook deltas from high energy waves, and suggest the potential for wake boat ballast tanks to introduce invasive weeds be carefully considered by the towns in their deliberations.
